Xalatan 50mcg/ 2.5ml - Eye Drops
latanoprost latanoprost is regulating the flow of fluid within the eye which results in lower pressure.
It is prostanoid selective FP receptor agonist that is believed to reduce the intraocular pressure (IOP) by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor. Studies in animals and man suggest that the main mechanism of action is increased uveoscleral outflow. Elevated IOP represents a major risk factor for glaucomatous field loss. The higher the level of IOP, the greater the likelihood of optic nerve damage and visual field loss.
Indications:
• Elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
• Elevated intraocular pressure in pediatric patients with elevated intraocular pressure and pediatric glaucoma.
Active Ingredient:
Latanoprost , Benzalkonium chloride.
Side effects:
• Iris pigmentation changes.
• Eyelid skin darkening.
• Eyelash changes (increased length, thickness, pigmentation, and number of lashes).
• Intraocular inflammation (iritis/uveitis).
• Macular edema, including cystoid macular edema.
Cautions:
• Hypersensitivity to latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride, or any other ingredients in this product.
• The pigmentation change is due to increased melanin content in the melanocytes rather than to an increase in the number of melanocytes.
Iris color change may not be noticeable for several months to years.
How to use:
One eye drops in the affected eye(s) once daily.
Optimal effect is obtained if Xalatan is administered in the evening.
