Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Indications:
• Relieve pain from various conditions such as headache, dental pain, menstrual cramps, muscle aches, or arthritis.
• Reduce fever.
• Relieve minor aches and pain due to the common cold or flu.
• Decrease swelling.
Points of interest:
• Avoid taking aspirin unless your doctor tells you to.
Do not take this medication if you are dehydrated, due to severe vomiting or diarrhea.
• Stop this medication and tell your doctor immediately if you develop swollen ankles, difficulty in breathing, chest pain, black stools or dark vomit.
How to use:
Take this medication by mouth, usually every 6 hours with a full glass of water.

Cautions:
• If you are allergic to it; or to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
• Has a medical history of asthma (including a history of worsening breathing after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs), blood disorders (such as anemia, bleeding/clotting problems), growths in the nose (nasal polyps)
Interactions:
• A blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven).
• Heart or blood pressure medication, including a diuretic or "water pill".
